Oxherd Flutist

Oxherd Flutist by Kamisaka Sekka (1866–1942), from A World of Things (Momoyogusa), a celebrated three-volume woodblock print collection (1909–1910). This charming composition depicts a young oxherd seated casually, playing his flute beside a resting ox. The bold, minimal form of the ox contrasts beautifully with the boy’s vivid blue attire, capturing both serenity and playful warmth.

Kamisaka, often regarded as the last great master of the Rinpa school, seamlessly blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with a modern sense of design. This work makes a striking addition to Japandi, wabi-sabi, and contemporary interiors alike.
